My roosters are two years old. YB is a Black Langsharn and Galahad is a Splash Cochin. Galahad has always been the dominant rooster, but wasn't mean about it; he was just in charge.
For some unknown reason, in the last couple weeks, they switched roles and YB became dominant. But... he was vicious about it. To the point that Galahad hid in the furthest corner and hoped nobody spotted him.
It was breaking my heart and I asked my mom if she would take him in. She likes taking a few elderly hens for the summer for their company and agreed to give Galahad a home. The happy ending to the story is that he and his three hens are settled in and enjoying life on the farm. Hooray!

Yep, we've frequently watched two (and a couple of times three) roosters switch places in the "Who's the Boss" pecking order. We've never had to re-home anyone as they seem to work it out on their own. (But, of course, would if one was in danger of being hurt.) Giving Galahad to your mom and her small flock turned out to be the perfect solution for you. And Galahad who no doubt thinks he's gone to hen heaven!
I love a happy ending! There is always way too much drama in the chicken yard.
They do try our patience at times, but gotta love em.
hey tpals, thanks for dropping by...I'm good thanks...busy though...think things will calm down a little now and I'll hopefully get chance to enjoy the garden....anything in the pipeline for a sequel to 'Something Begins'??
